About C-Bas

C-Bas was established in 1972 with Phil Hindle taking over the helm in 2003. We are a well-established practice with many years of experience to help with clients’ accounts and payroll needs.

Phil knows that for some small businesses, or sole traders, larger accounting firms could be intimidating and often have higher costs associated with them. The smaller firms wanted to deal with people who were like them, who they could talk to and get professional advice from a named individual without going through a call centre or help desk. With this in mind, the C-Bas team is deliberately small. It provides payroll and accounts support and delivers on some simple key promises:

Meet The Team

Phillip Hindle

Phillip Hindle FCCA MAAT

Managing Director

Phil qualified in 2000 as a Chartered Certified Accountant and is Managing Partner at C-Bas having bought the company in 2003. He has worked in the finance sector for small to medium sized businesses across the UK since 1986.

Phil specialises in helping small businesses to set up, maintain and grow, and has worked in many sectors including franchising. He is a general accountant covering all areas of tax, accounts and business management, and is also skilled in helping to raise funding.

Outside of work Phil follows rugby, enjoys cycling and travel, and works to raise money for many charities during each year.

Simon Osborne (FMAAT), Practice Manager

Practice Manager

Simon is a Fellow Member of the AAT and has been with C-Bas since 2016.

He has had a varied career before settling into accountancy, leaving school at 16 to join the Royal Navy, a 13-year career with NatWest and corporate banking, then a few years running a pub/restaurant B&B in Devon. He then joined a small accountancy practice in Herne Bay and studied towards his accountancy qualifications for the Association of Accountancy Technicians. After around 12 years building his knowledge and experience, Simon joined C-Bas where he has helped grow the business.

“I have seen C-Bas go from strength to strength and feel I have played an important role in its development. I’ve built good relationships with many clients, who I hope find me very approachable to help them with their accountancy and tax needs. Unless I win the lottery, I hope to be here ‘til I retire!”

Outside of work, Simon enjoys socialising with friends and travel. “I do like to go on holiday!”

Ben Kempster-Cox MAAT, Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant

A member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, Ben is studying to be a Chartered Accountant. He has worked at C-Bas since 2021.

“I started studying for the Chartered Accountants qualifications with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2021 and am now about half-way through. I have around another two to three years of study ahead of me and look forward to the recognition that Chartered status brings.”

Ben certainly has the experience and knowledge to support our clients in completing their accounts, CIS returns, VAT returns, and personal tax returns. He has worked in the industry since 2015 when he left school after his GCSEs and started his career as an accounts assistant apprentice as part of the government’s apprenticeship scheme.

Outside of work, Ben loves the theatre (musical and comedy shows) and enjoys walking and travelling.

Yvette Crawford MAAT, Senior Accountant

Senior Accountant

Yvette joined the C-Bas team in 2021 and her main duties include accounts preparation, VAT returns, bookkeeping and personal tax returns.

Yvette fell into accounting by chance in 2008 when she became an accounts assistant. Falling in love with the profession, she funded her professional training herself and became Association of Accounting Technicians qualified with full membership in 2019.

Outside of work Yvette likes being around friends and family, going to the cinema, watching football and walking.

Hannah Ballard ACIPP, Payroll Manager

Payroll Manager

Hannah is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals and has worked with C-Bas since 2021. She holds the Payroll Technician Certificate in Payroll Processing and provides invaluable support to all our clients who engage us for payroll services.

Beyond the day-to-day processing, she assists with company pension administration, maternity and sickness calculations and HMRC queries.

When Hannah left school, she didn’t have a clear idea of a career path, starting out in retail before finding her first payroll position at entry level. She worked diligently, gaining extensive experience and qualifications. Hannah now heads up the payroll team at C-Bas, where you can find her should you need any help.

Outside work, Hannah is a keen hockey player and plays for her local team. She also likes spending time at home with her family and especially improving the garden.

Melissa Egleton, Administrator

With over 15 years of administrative experience, Melissa joined Phil’s team at C-Bas in 2016.

As the first point of contact, Melissa plays a vital role in the day-to-day running of the office. Being detail-orientated and organised, Melissa helps to streamline administrative processes. She takes pride in building a strong rapport with clients, ensuring they receive excellent service and support.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys socialising and keeping active. You can usually find her at the gym with her friends, enjoying time with her family, or gardening on a sunny day.
